Just about six days to go to Google I/O 2018 to commence at Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California, United States. This is one of the most awaiting events of the year especially for the pioneers of science and mobile technology as well as top android application development companies. This is a multi-day event starting from 8th of May 2018 and will continue till 10th of May 2018. However, expectations and rumors already started inflowing months beforehand especially for the name of the latest version of the Android operating system- Android P.

Without wasting time, let’s shed light on the ongoing expectations and rumors surrounding Google I/O 2018.

The first one that pops up immediately is ANDROID P

Google has already released the initial preview of Android P right at the beginning of the month of March, 7th of the month to be exact. Features include:

  • Indoor Navigation with Google and location-based services including voice-control when smart home devices are accessed.
  • Revamped and improved security, which extends further to merely addressing bugs and shutting off loopholes. Android P is capable of preventing apps from secretly recording your data and offers an encrypted format for maintaining backups.
  • The Beta program of the version is likely to be staged during the conference. However, the ‘P’ will remain undisclosed until Google decides to open the Pandora’s Box.

What is ‘Wear OS’?

The renamed version of Android Wear, Wear OS is finally going to reflect the search engine guru’s visions since Google’s watches have started working on iPhones as well. A particular slot has already been allotted to Wear OS scheduled on May 9th, 2018, 10:30 AM- 11:30 AM. A lot can be witnessed on Wear OS in the conference. This is one such announcement the android app developers, as well as the iOS app development companies, are waiting with their fingers crossed.

Google Assistant and Google Home

Already decked with numerous features and task performance through voice commands, Google Assistant can expect few more functions added to it. Expectations swirling around Google Assistant with the hope that it will support over 30 different languages and perform multi-tasks but with a singular voice command.

Android TV or is it Android TV Stick?

It is definitely a Google-branded Android TV Stick and is highly likely to list amongst the many other strategic announcements expected from Google I/O 2018. The Android TV stick can successfully stream 4K videos. But it will not be easy on the wallet.

Other features expected to have a slot dedicated to them:

Chrome OS

We can expect to hear more on Chrome OS tablets at Google I/O this year to be added to the family of Acer Chromebook Tab 10.

Google Pixel 3

The third generation in the family of Pixel(s) can on the agenda too. Post launch of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on October 4th, 2017.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

The two technologies have made quite a news in recent times followed by a slight setback in their popularity recently. And when Google already has a couple of Virtual Reality headsets under its wings, we can expect a light thrown in that direction for this event. Moreover, there have been mild whispers on the probability of Google planning something big with VR as it has hired employees and Patent rights from Lytro- the light-field camera maker. As far as Augmented Reality is concerned, the followers of AR technology can as well stay disappointed this year even.

Also, refer back to Google’s plans for its project Tango

Revamped Google Photos, app domains, and smart displays

Google is likely to introduce the .app domain name in the conference along with some interesting features added to Google Photos. Smart displays imbibed with VR technologies as announced way back in the CES 2018 conference can be a part of the three days event list.

Final Takeaways

Google I/O, the annual developer’s conference, is the prominent event scheduled each year at about the same time. The application development companies have yet another event to catch up on post-Google I/O that mainly sparkles with innovation and creativity. Well! The WWDC 2018 has been referred to here. It is extremely imperative for the top-rated mobile application development companies such as Fluper to stay abreast with the announcements so as to gain important insights for app building. The registration for the conference was shut down already in the month of March. The long period of anticipation and flying rumors is soon to end when the whole world will be a participant to the greatest announcements of the year through live streams and video postings later by Google itself.
