Epson has released the first projector incorporating the second generation of its MeetingMate technology. It enables users to interact with the displayed contact using finger gestures in addition to the interactive pens at one of them is used with the first generation. Epson claims that its latest projector "completely remove the need for any kind of whiteboard."

The new EB-1430Wi is claimed to be the world’s first finger touch-based interactive projector aimed squarely at the world of business. It enables up to six people to use finger gestures to draw on a projected image, select and move areas of the image and interact in much the same way as they do on a touch screen tablet.

Content written digitally on a projection can be shared and annotated simultaneously by both local and remote participants using mobile devices, computers and other MeetingMate projectors.

Epson Australia General Manager for its Business Division, Craig Heckenberg said, “The new MeetingMate projectors revolutionise any whiteboard, wall, flat surface or existing dryerase board as it makes them a truly interactive and powerful business tool. Simply turn on the projector and start writing. It’s that easy.”

MeetingMate projectors can be connected to the Internet via either a wired ethernet connection of via WiFi. Epson's EasyMP application enables the same image to be projected from four MeetingMate projectors anywhere in the world, and to be controlled and annotated from any of the four locations. Key maintenance and status indicators like lamp hours, temperature and filter conditions can also be monitored remotely.

By connecting the projectors to a PC via USB cable, users can mimic the PC's mouse using the MeetingMate's interactive pen or their fingers. When used with Microsoft Office (Windows Vista or later), users can handwrite comments and diagrams directly into the document being projected and save it in the original file format.

Another app, the Epson iProjection app enables user connect their iPhone, iPad and Android devices to MeetingMate projectors over WiFi and share and display content from those devices.

MeetingMate projectors can also be connected to videoconferencing systems so the 'projected' image can appear on the video screen, side by side with the image of conference participants.

The EB-1430Wi has a recommended retail price of $3,699, including GST and is available now from authorised Epson dealers.
