The increasing trend of automation has taken every industry by the storm, and the automotive industry has reached a substantial stage in realizing the dream of autonomous vehicles. One of the branches of the autonomous vehicle industry, the global traffic jam assist systems market is at a nascent stage, but, the competition in the market has attracted the attention of various market giants. The key players are competing to attain a larger pool of consumers, by using various strategies such as new product launches including reliable and secure systems pricing strategies, the acquisitions of small-scale start-ups and emerging players, and the formation of partnerships among the major players in the automotive components industry.
One of the automotive giants, Audi, unveiled its Nvidia-powered level 3 autonomous vehicle, the A8 2018 in July 2017. The focus of this launch was on the Audi AI Traffic Jam Pilot, a driver assistance technology the car giant said is optimised for use in traffic jams. The partnership with Nvidia was announced by Audi earlier this year, with the aim to bring level 4 autonomy to the roads by 2020. Nvidia has also teamed up with Here, Baidu, TomTom, and Zenrin for mapping services.1
Another market leader, Robert Bosch GmBH, expanded its manufacturing capacity in China, as announced in August 2017. The supplier of technology and services is investing nearly 100 million euros in a new plant which will manufacture Bosch’s iBooster for customers in Asia Pacific. This vacuum-independent electromechanical brake booster is a key component for electromobility and driver assistance systems. According to the company, as traffic congestion and automation increase, the iBooster will help promote greater energy efficiency and safety on China’s roads.2
BIS Automotive has acknowledged the increasing competition in the market as the companies are competing to widen their product portfolio and collaborations in order to enhance the performance and quality of the components of the autonomous systems, and has compiled a report titled ‘Global Traffic Jam Assist Systems Market, Analysis & Forecast – 2017 to 2026’. According to the analyst, “The global traffic jam assist systems market generated $1.08 billion in 2016. Currently, the market is being driven by the need to find a solution to reduce the vehicle congestion on the roads. Additionally, introducing these systems on the civilian roads will help reduce accidents caused due to the human error.” Some of the key players in the market are Continental AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, Denso Corporation, Delphi Automotive PLC, Mobileye NV, Infineon technologies and Magna International.
