There’s no telling how anything below $200 USD can get you a smartphone with lots of specs that you would mistake it for a more expensive device. Today we will be taking a good look at Meizu M3E and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, both hailing from China.

Let’s gear on up and meet the latest and newest M3E as it will be setting a new bar for Meizu’s mid-range model. So here’s the lowdown of it:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~403 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 chipset, Octa-core processor featuring Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53, Mali-T860MP2 and 3GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • 13MP primary camera Sony IMX258 CMOS sensor with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Non-removable 3100 mAh battery with Fast battery charging (mCharge): 50% in 30 minutes & 90% in 60 minutes
  • Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • $199 USD price tag

The M3E has everything that you can ever wish for a mid-range smartphone and more – metal body, 2.5D curved glass, fingerprint sensor, octa-core processor with 3GB RAM, 13MP-5MP camera and a large enough battery.

Camera-wise, it sports a great 13MP primary camera that has a fast 0.2s PDAF autofocus which allows you to capture unique snapshots in fantastic quality, in the nick of time. The wide ƒ/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens and dual-tone flash guarantee crisp photos in all lighting conditions. As for the 5MP selfie camera, it features a wide ƒ/2.0 aperture together with FotoNation 2.0 and Face AE technologies to ensure selfies always look great.

Even though the M3E might be sporting a 3100 mAh battery, the best part is its fast battery charging feature – get up to 50% power in just 30 minutes of charge; and 90% power in 60 minutes. This will ensure you don’t get yourself stuck for too long.

Now let’s talk about the weakness of the M3E, if there’s any. It is bewildering to note that this smartphone is still running on the rather outdated Android Lollipop 5.1 OS. Even though Marshmallow 6.0 has become mainstream and the recent release of Nougat 7.0, it feels like you are at a disadvantage because of this. You can just hope that it will get an update sooner rather than later.

Another budget smartphone which costs $30 USD less, we can find Redmi Note 4. They have continued to surprise us for the past few years and it is nothing short of amazing that they are able to provide us with a smartphone that costs so little but big on value.

So here’s what Redmi Note 4 is all about:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • 2.5D curved glass
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6797 Helio X20 chipset, Deca-core 2.1 GHz processor, Mali-T880 MP4 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera withf/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera withf/2.0 aperture
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Po 4100 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • $169 USD price tag

Both devices have more things in common – metal body, 2.5D curved glass, fingerprint sensor, 3GB RAM, 13MP-5MP camera dual-sim feature and 4G LTE connectivity.

One of the great things about the Redmi Note 4 is that it is one of the few currently that has a deca-core processor, that’s 10 cores for you sir. In fact, it is a speedy one clocking in at 2.1 GHz. You should have no trouble blazing through all apps and games that are out there in the market.

Redmi Note 4 has a large 64GB internal storage and an even larger 4100 mAh battery. One clear advantage it has is the fact that it is running on Android Marshmallow 6.0 OS.

Conclusion:

Meizu M3E is all about style and substance that provides great value for money. Who would have thought that for $199 USD, you will getting all these great stuff. But only if you can forgive the fact that is running on Lollipop OS.

Meizu M3e is currently available for $199 USD. It is available in Blue, Gold, Gray, Pink and Silver.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is making its presence felt, especially in its native country China. With international shipping to follow suit very soon, it can only bode well as it reaches out to more people on this planet. Great body complemented by a great hardware with 10-core processor, great storage and great battery life really makes for an excellent smartphone. And it is also $30 USD cheaper as well.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 had just been released for approximately $169 USD. You can choose either Gold, Gray or Silver colour.
