If you have around $500 USD to spend, then you should consider both Motorola Moto X 2015 and Oppo R7 in your shortlist. One is set to be the flagship in 2015 while the other is more focusing on beauty and style. So let’s check them both out?

Those who have bought previous models of Moto X, Moto G and Moto E surely have gotten their Lollipop updates by now. And that’s just one of the reasons why Motorola is doing very well in the smartphone industry - you are almost guaranteed to be among the first to get any updates.

For a plain vanilla Android experience, Motorola is surely the way to go. That is if you can wait until the Moto X 2015 release which is expected to be in September this year.

On the other corner, the R7 is set to a killer when it comes to premium looking styling. That is further enhanced by its strong specs to complement its good looks.

Nothing is confirmed as far as the Moto X 2015 body size and weight is concerned, but you can be sure that it will expand more on its metal outlook. Now in its 3rd generation, you certainly can expect more from them.

The R7 is slated to be released in China by the end of May 2015, and there are still some uncertainties especially on its size and weight. But one thing for sure is that it will still have that 4.85mm thin of a body from last year’s best-selling R5.

The metal body will add a certain degree of style while the thin bezel ensures maximum workspace and adds a little bit flair as well.

Even though both are having a 5.2-inch screen but then again, that is about the only similarity that they are having. On the Moto X 2015, it will now be featuring an improved Quad HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that displays 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~565 ppi pixel density.

You can expect great-looking images that you will be enjoying every second that you spend with the smartphone. There will also be some kind of added protection in the form of Gorilla Glass 3.

Whereas on the R7, there’s the 5.2-inch Full HD AMOLED capacitive, and this is the bare minimum standard for flagships these days. A jump to Quad HD would have been natural, but they have decided to hold on to that upgrade.

Then there’s the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which should add that little bit of protection to this precious smartphone.

Under the hood of the Moto X 2015 is expected to be the Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset paired with an octa-core processor, Adreno 418 graphics, and a whopping 4GB RAM. It will be a huge jump in terms of performance as the second generation is only having a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

You can expect it to run all apps and games pretty well with a lot left to spare.

As for the R7, we can expect it to perform better from last year’s R5 with the R7 expected to be sporting the Mediatek MT6752 chipset paired with an Octa-core 1.7 GHz processor, PowerVR G6200 graphics and 3GB RAM. This would make for a fast performance, and there’s nothing that the R7 couldn’t run well.

Benchmarking the two would favor the Moto X 2015 slightly but in real-life situation, both are great performers who are at the high-end space already. There are very little that you can improve on further in this case.

When it comes to the camera department, the Moto X 2015 will be featuring a 16 Megapixel primary camera with Clear Pixel technology and Optical Image Stabilization among many other things. Then there’s the 5 Megapixel secondary camera for all your selfie and video chats.

Here is where the R7 is expected to be better with its 20 Megapixel primary camera with 5376 x 3752 pixels, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. Then there’s also the 5 Megapixel secondary camera for all your selfie needs.

Both might be equal when it comes to taking selfies but the whopping camera tech on the R7 makes it very delicious indeed and trust me, you will be taking lots of photos and admiring the scenery more after this.

As far as storage is concerned, the Moto X 2015 is expected to come with two variants as far as storage is concerned. There’s the option of going for either 32GB or 64GB.

But bear in mind that it will not have an expansion slot so that you will be stuck with your choice for like forever. If the price difference isn’t that huge, then it would make sense to invest just a little bit more for the 64GB model.

As opposed to the R7 that will only have 16GB of internal storage but at least this time around the R7 will be featuring a microSD expansion slot that can add in a whopping 128GB of additional storage.

Once it is released to the market in September, you can expect it the Moto X 2015 to be featuring the latest Android Lollipop release. This would be a perfect complement to the already amazing piece of hardware that it has.

Same goes with the R7 but the smartphone will be running on Color OS 3.0 which is also based on the latest Android Lollipop 5.0. That is good news indeed as I’m sure it might have taken Oppo quite some time to come out with its flavor and customize it accordingly.

Another huge upgrade is in the battery department where there will be a non-removable Li-Ion 3280 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice to the Moto X 2015. It will also be equipped with Quick Charge 2.0 which will rapidly charge the smartphone to 60% in just 30 minutes.

Perhaps the only major downside to the R7 is that it would only be equipped with a rather small non-removable Li-Po 2000 mAh battery. Due to the ultra-slim design, it has to sacrifice a bit on the battery department.

But at least with the fast battery charging feature, the battery will be charged up to 75% in just 30 minutes.

Great specs, great screen and great camera will ensure Moto X 2015 success once it is out in September. Don’t forget that it will be among the first to get the latest Google updates ahead of every other manufacturers.

This makes for a killer combination, and the only thing that you have to worry about is the price.

The premium look and feel on the Oppo R7 is certainly a sight to behold. The metal body coupled with its ultra-thin design makes for a very beautiful and sexy smartphone.

It smartly hides the beast that is inside the R7 which as things stand are of a flagship level. It improves on last year’s deal-breaker by bringing in the microSD slot this time around.

The only downside to it is the rather low battery level.

The Motorola Moto X 2015 is expected to be released in September 2015 although the price has yet to be revealed. But taking cue from the Moto X 2015 price when it is first released, you can expect to fork out closer to $500 USD to own this amazing smartphone.

The Oppo R7 is expected to be released by this month with an estimated price tag of between $449-$499 USD and it will be available in various colors.
