Oppo Mirror 5S sure knows how to catch someone’s attention with its sparkling diamond-like mirrored surface. But does it have the brain to go along with its beauty? I’m afraid not.

You really can’t help but admire the beauty of the Mirror 5S, thanks to its sleek exterior and inner strength. You will come to appreciate how it looks so well in all the different angles. Feast your eyes on its unique back exterior that was designed with individual cut-glass sections and have different reflective tendencies. All this is crafted using a sophisticated ultraviolet embossing technique.

The beauty is not only on the outside, but all the way to the inside as well. Beneath the attractive surface is an innovative internal structure reinforced with a bi-metallic frame with cross beams that gives it the exceptional strength and durability. That’s something we don’t normally see in other smartphones.

With a body measurement at just 143.4 x 71.2 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.80 x 0.30 in) and weighing in at 160 g (5.64 oz), it has the necessary body to boot.

Featuring a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that displays 720 x 1280 pixels or ~294 ppi pixel density, it looks good on the screen as well. By having the IPS screen tech, it provides for a much wider viewing angle should you need to share the screen with a friend or two.

It is on the performance side of things that we see things are starting to look not so good for the Mirror 5S. With a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53, Adreno 306 and 2GB RAM; it somehow feels short of the expectation that we sought out of it. However, it is still good enough for all your daily needs.

The Mirror 5S uses an 8 Megapixel primary camera that comes with f/2.2 aperture lens and 1.4 um pixels size. With greater photo-sensitivity for low light conditions and a faster exposure time that minimizes blurring, combined with the newly enhanced Pure Image 2.0+ engine; you can look forward to consistently superior images, whether it is day or night.

Then it has the 5 Megapixel secondary camera that comes with Beautify 3.0 technology, which eliminates the need for image editing. You can now focus on capturing beautiful and natural selfies to share with friends and family. It also comes equipped with multiple modes, matching gender, age, and so much more. You will have so much fun exploring what the camera can do.

Besides state-of-the-art photographic modes like Beautify 3.0, Double Exposure and Various Filters, other settings include modes like Time-lapse, Ultra-HD, Slow Shutter, Panorama, HDR, Super GIF, Audio Photo, Colorful Night, Expert Mode and Normal Mode, lets you tell your story the way you want it to be told.

You can expect the Mirror 5S to be faster, steadier and better as it has fast activation speed, smooth and steady sliding when ColorOS 2.1 meets Android 5.1 together. It is designed with quality while keeping it simple. It gives you a clear layered and minimalist version that provides a more entertaining user experience to you on your smartphone. Somehow I do feel that it is not for everyone though.

Some of its really cool features is Smart Clearance. If the screen is idle for more than 10 minutes, clearing process of memory garbage will be initiated automatically. Talk about real and automatic optimization. Then we have Home screen Management where ColorOS 2.1 has a specialized three-in-one efficient management and organizing function. Shake it for automatic sorting, quick transfers across pages and management of icons by batches. Finally with Lockscreen Notification, all of your important notifications are shown under lockscreen status to remind you to take action and not miss out on any important messages.

There’s 16GB of internal storage that can also be further upgraded with the available microSD slot up to a maximum of 128GB.

Battery-wise, the Mirror 5S comes equipped with a non-removable Li-Po 2420 mAh battery. It should be just nice to be able to power up the device for at least a day.

Also do take note that it has 4G LTE connectivity and dual-sim feature which is a nice addition.

Great body doesn’t necessarily mean great performance. All things beings said and done, the Oppo Mirror 5S should have at least have a faster Quad-core processor or go all the way to Octa-core. A Full HD screen resolution would have been nice too.

The Oppo Mirror 5S is expected to be released in August 2015 although the price has yet to be revealed. It will only be available in white color, though.
